Best Shower Radio for Spoken Word
Been looking for a shower radio that I can actually understand. I don't listen to music in the shower ( I save my music listening for much more capable speakers) but I do listen to news and podcasts. Most shower radios I have owned (4, so far) were okay but not great. Human voices were mostly muffled and just not clear. However, this Altec Lansing SS provides the most crisp, clear audio of any shower radio I have owned. I am no longer straining to understand what is being said, as all spoken language comes through amazingly clear. Look I don't know how this is for music but I can tell you that if you have been looking for a speaker like this for years. Simply great for audiobooks, podcasts, newscasts, etc. Battery life may not be as long as some other speakers (I think it's rated to about 6 hours) but at 10 - 15 minutes per shower, that's plenty long enough for me.

I LOVE this SPEAKER
This is my favorite speaker. I have 2 now. I bought my first one in person. I have several others from several different brands but this one is the best. It has the quality of sound and lasts a very long time. I use it all the time, indoors, outdoors, in the shower and even at Corporate Chair Massage events to play relaxing music with water sounds. The sound is clear, pristine, crisp. I always get compliments at these quality of the sound at these events. Also it has the best volume compared to my other brands. I recommend this one 100%. Oh, one more thing. I have dropped my older one many many times and it is still working.

Good speaker with a few small annoyances.
Pros:The hanging loop. This would be a difficult speaker to sit on a shelf but the large hanging loop makes it easy to hang from just about anywhere. It's large and flexible enough that you can pull it back through it for a secure connection to use on a boat or other bumpy scenario.Battery life. Excellent. I use it every day for about ten minutes in the shower and it lasts for months.Sound quality: Very good for spoken word. I don't use it for music so I can't speak to the music quality.Controls: This is one of few speakers that can trigger google assistant and is the feature I bought it for. I always think of "to dos" in the shower ("buy more shampoo") and now I can add them to my list on the spot.Cons:Low battery alarm: A few minutes into a recent shower it announced "battery 20%". "Great," I thought, "for as long as this charge has lasted it'll go a few more weeks." HA. Within another minute it started beeping every 20 seconds. The logic of this is lost on me. It's a shower speaker. The battery dying isn't going to bring about the end of western civilization and I'm not going to plug it in in the shower. The 20% warning was great. But wait until you get to 10% to get dramatic about it. And there is literally no scenario where a shower speaker needs to beep every 20 seconds as a low battery alarm. It also didn't pause my media during those beeps so I just missed content.Controls: Mixed bag here. The controls are large but they're hard to see. It would help if the designs on them (+/-/etc) were colored. Turning the speaker off requires an absurdly long press of about six seconds.

Love this lil thing!
Bought this as a gift for my bff because she fell in love with mine on recent trip.I was given the older version of this speaker (without voice commands) five yrs ago as Xmas gift. My old one is still kicking after thousands of showers, baths, dropped 100x on hard surfaces, in pool, lake, many beach days, left outside in rain...still rockin! Love it! When it finally dies I will buy this newer version with voice commands. I have answered calls in shower, bath and everywhere else & have no problems hearing caller or being heard.Comparing the two, the sound quality is EXCELLENT in both. Cannot say if battery life is the same because it lasts so long, her new one hasn't needed a charge yet, but one could safely assume it will because it's newer. Mine lasts at least the 5 hrs. Yes, the "charge battery" prompt is annoying but it's not rocket science - charge it after you've used it for long periods of time other than in shower (takes about an hr).As far as sound quality goes, this little thing kicks out some sound! It's not a Bose or Beats Pill (I have both), but when cranked up to 11 blasts Metallica enough to annoy the neighbors! For a $20 "shower speaker" I got a LOT more than I ever thought. Buy it & take your shower-singing experience next level! Enjoy!

For Audiobooks: Nice but Has Distracting Flaw
I specifically bought this so I could listen to podcasts and audiobooks in the shower (I'm an insatiable reader!) and researched for something that would provide very clear vocals that wasn't tinny or drowning in base. This is almost perfect, it's pretty clear with vocals but if the audiobook performer is doing a lot of character voice work (for example, The Witcher series) some of the dialogue can get lost with different voices and intonations. My biggest problem is the sound drops out in a small but distracting way. I suspect the audiobook files are impacting how the speaker performs. For some audiobooks (regardless of app), whenever the narrator pauses at the end of the sentence or a comma, the audio will cut off. Essentially, there is a millisecond of delay, it skips the very first letter or syllable of the word. But the weird thing is, it doesn't happen with every single audiobook. Some audiobooks work just fine which leads me to believe something is up with the file (maybe it's heavily spliced so the speaker thinks it's starting a new track every time?). I've done everything I can think of (re-pairing, changing the audiobook speed, bringing the phone closer to the speaker, changing the volume, etc) and nothing fixes it.I tried to reach out to the manufacturing on the website and never got a response. It's really annoying. Ultimately, it performs much better than other waterproof speakers but this little quirk is a fundamental issue for my purposes. As an aside, the other complaints from other reviewers are valid, like: the controls aren't great, it takes an absurdly long time to shut off with a long-press. I like the design and so far, it's holding up. But, overall, I'm disappointed by this really distracting quirk.
